Contact lenses are medical devices. With a professional fit and consistent care they offer clear, comfortable vision; poor habits can increase the risk of irritation and infection.

Four habits to avoid
Sleeping in your lenses
Do not sleep or nap in lenses unless your practitioner has specifically prescribed an extended-wear product. Even then, the recommended schedule and follow-up matter.
Letting lenses touch water
Remove lenses before showering or swimming. Never rinse or store them in water: it is not sterile and may carry microorganisms that can harm the eye.
Topping off old solution
Empty the case completely and use fresh solution every time. Never mix old and new solution; care for the case as directed and replace it regularly.
Overwearing lenses or ignoring symptoms
Follow the replacement schedule and wearing time. Pain, marked redness, light sensitivity or sudden blurred vision are not normal “adjustment”.
A safer daily routine
- Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching lenses or eyes.
- Use only the solution and care method recommended for your lenses.
- Do not change brand, material or base curve without a new fitting assessment.
- Carry clean backup glasses so you can remove your lenses when necessary.
- Attend scheduled checks even when your vision feels fine.
When should you seek prompt advice?
Remove the lenses immediately if you develop pain, persistent redness, discharge, light sensitivity or a sudden change in vision. Do not wear them again until you have been assessed by an eye-care professional.
