Progressive Glasses for Perfect Vision at All Distances
Progressive Glasses
To achieve the best possible vision at all distances, it’s essential to properly adjust to your new progressive lenses.
Never worn glasses before, but your optometrist recommended progressives? You should be prepared to wear frames all day. At the same time, it’s important to have some patience and learn the correct way to use progressive lenses.
For those of you who have worn glasses before, be aware that progressive lenses will be a completely new experience!
To help those who’ve decided to try progressive glasses, the opticians at The Optical Center have put together a few tips to help you get comfortable with your new, very different glasses.
Some people adapt to their new glasses within a few hours. However, others may take up to two weeks to feel that the glasses have become one with their eyes.
But don’t worry! It’s common not to feel immediately comfortable with new lenses. Don’t overthink it; just let your eyes adjust naturally. Soon, you’ll begin to feel like your vision is completely normal.
The Optical Center’s 7 Tips
- The first step is to stop wearing any glasses made with an older prescription. From now on, only wear your new progressive glasses. The way of seeing through progressive lenses is quite different, and you’ll never get used to them if you don’t give your eyes the necessary time to “train” for this specific type of vision. (Simply put: Don’t confuse your eyes and your vision by switching with other glasses.)
- You should wear your progressive glasses all day and make sure they sit high on your nose.
- The biggest change may be that you’ll need to turn your entire head to see something rather than just using your eyes alone. Continue turning your head to the side until you’re focused on what you want to look at.
- Like any other frames, make sure the ones you choose fit your face perfectly. They shouldn’t be too tight or too loose. Also, the nose pads should be properly adjusted to your nose bridge.
- With progressives, you can easily do a simple check yourself! Wear your glasses and then look at an object at least twenty meters away. If you have to lower your head for a clear view, your glasses may need readjustment.
- When you first put on your new glasses, stand up and walk carefully, looking straight ahead. As you move your eyes to the edges of your glasses, you’ll notice a slight blur at the edges. Looking straight ahead is the optimal point for normal distance vision. The real trick is to train your eyes to “automatically” find the section of the lens that lets you see up close.
- Be mindful that when walking or going up stairs, you should NEVER look through the lower part of the lens, but ALWAYS through the top part.
It’s completely natural to worry that it may be challenging initially, but you’ll get used to this new way of seeing very soon!
Those were our tips! Now you’re ready to try your new progressive glasses!
